A place of refuge in the middle of the chaos

Written by Flore and Jonathan Meyer

For more than three weeks, Kainos have welcomed 37 people who had to flee their neighborhoods due to increasing insecurity. In just one month, over 60,000 people have been displaced. Gang attacks in Port-au-Prince continue to rise, and in total, more than ONE MILLION people find themselves displaced because of this violence.
Our team in Haiti is redoubling its efforts to help these families. Every morning, they prepare more than 40 meals. We plan to create more space in our base and in our apartment to welcome even more people while continuing to pray for peace in Port-au-Prince and for the protection of our home and neighborhood.
The international force is overwhelmed, and the Haitian police cannot cover the entire capital with the limited personnel available. Although kamikaze drones have managed to take out several gang members, they continue to operate in almost every neighborhood of the Port-au-Prince metropolitan area and in several localities in the Artibonite department. Recently, Kenskoff was the scene of tragic attacks, where at least a hundred people were cowardly massacred. Many homes were reduced to ashes, leaving a significant portion of the population as refugees in their own country. More than a million women, men, and children live in inhumane conditions, whether in makeshift camps or on the streets.
The statistics are alarming: sexual violence against children has skyrocketed by more than 1,000%, while the recruitment of child soldiers by gangs is estimated at 70%. These horrific figures are rarely reported by the media.
However, our team has been able to replenish our food supply, allowing us to feed families every Thursday and distribute food kits. We have also been able to distribute our chickens, and we hope that by Easter, our fish will be ready to be distributed. Samuel has started a new book in Creole on the believer's life, and Wanguerre taught UNO, which brought many laughs, especially when they learned about the +4, a small victory.
These moments, although difficult, are an opportunity for us to show God's love and commitment to those who are suffering.
